Chocolate confetti squares are a simple, retro no‑bake dessert made with just four ingredients. They’re soft and chewy with a rich chocolate and peanut butter base and sweet, fluffy marshmallows throughout.

A few months ago I shared my favorite confetti squares recipe. You may know these as peanut butter marshmallow squares or butterscotch marshmallow squares — whatever the name, they’re wonderfully nostalgic and addictive.
Now comes the chocolate version: Chocolate Confetti Squares.
These retro no‑bake bars require just four ingredients:
- Butter
- Chocolate chips
- Peanut butter
- Mini marshmallows
No fancy techniques — just classic, sugary goodness. The bars are sweet and chewy, with a pleasant peanut butter note and lots of marshmallow texture. If you have a serious sweet tooth, these are for you.
The name comes from using multi‑colored mini marshmallows, which give the squares a cheerful, retro look. You can use plain white marshmallows if you prefer; the flavor is the same, but the colors do evoke childhood memories.
My grandma loved to bake and always had an abundance of treats on the counter: cookies, caramel popcorn, Nanaimo bars, and of course, confetti squares. When she babysat us we always got extra treats, and chocolate confetti squares will always remind me of her.
I hadn’t made them in years, but when I was choosing favorite recipes to share, this one made the list for sure.
How to Make Chocolate Confetti Squares
To prepare the bars, gently melt the butter, chocolate chips and peanut butter together in a saucepan over low heat. Stir slowly and keep the heat low to avoid lumps and burning.
Remove the pan from the heat and allow the chocolate‑peanut butter mixture to cool. This cooling step is essential — if the mixture is still hot when you add the marshmallows, they will melt.
When the mixture is no longer hot, fold in the mini marshmallows, then press the mixture into a lined or greased 8×8 or 9×9 inch pan. Chill in the refrigerator for a couple of hours until firm, then cut into squares.
These bars are a hit with kids and adults alike. The balance of chocolate and peanut butter combined with the chew of marshmallows makes them hard to resist. If you want a quick, no‑bake dessert that still feels indulgent, chocolate confetti squares fit the bill.
