Super easy and super delicious homemade Peanut Butter Granola Bars topped with Reese’s Pieces.
This weekend Jay is away coaching at a hockey tournament. He’s working with a team of 15-year-old boys, and while I still don’t know much about hockey, I noticed a few things:
- I know nothing about hockey.
- Coaches can be colorful with their language.
- I’m very glad I was never a 15-year-old boy.
- I dislike cold rinks (that one wasn’t new).
Clearly, I’d make an excellent hockey parent. Not.
To redeem myself, I made treats: Peanut Butter Granola Bars with Reese’s Pieces. I’m not sure how many of the players actually got any—maybe just the coaches—but I did my best.
These bars are definitely kid- and coach-approved, though you don’t have to be either to enjoy them. They’re packed with peanut butter flavor and have a perfect chew. Rolled oats add fiber and peanut butter adds protein, so these make a satisfying snack that keeps you full.
Even better, these homemade bars beat the store-bought kind in taste and simplicity. The ingredients are common pantry staples, and you can swap the Reese’s Pieces for chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, chopped peanuts, or another favorite candy.
The method is straightforward: melt peanut butter, honey, brown sugar and butter together in a heavy saucepan, then let it come to a slow boil for a few minutes so the sugar fully dissolves. Stir in vanilla, then add oats and Rice Krispies. Press the mixture firmly into a prepared pan, top with Reese’s Pieces, and press them in. No baking required.
Simple, quick, and delicious.

Ingredients
- 2 cups quick oats
- 1 cup and 1/2 Rice Krispies
- 3/4 cup peanut butter (if using crunchy, use 1 full cup)
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/ teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup Reese’s Pieces
Instructions
-
Line an 8×8 or 9×9 inch square pan with parchment paper, leaving about 2 inches of overhang on each side.
-
In a large bowl, combine the oats and Rice Krispies. Set aside.
-
In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the peanut butter, brown sugar, honey and butter. Stir as the mixture melts and bring it to a very slow boil so the sugar dissolves. Continue stirring and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
-
Pour the peanut butter mixture into the bowl with the oats and Rice Krispies and stir until fully combined. Press the mixture firmly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle Reese’s Pieces on top and press them in.
-
Chill the bars in the freezer for 15–30 minutes or in the refrigerator for about 1 hour, until set. Once firm, lift from the pan using the parchment overhang and cut into squares.
