These easy Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies are soft, chewy, and slightly fudgy. The recipe uses just four ingredients, making it an ideal quick chocolate cookie whenever the craving hits.
I’ve baked many chocolate cookies, and you can never have too much chocolate. These cake mix cookies are one of the simplest recipes you can make: fudgy, tender, and forgiving even for amateur bakers.
How to Make Chocolate Cookies from Cake Mix
You’ll only need four ingredients:
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 box (15 oz) chocolate cake mix — Devil’s food or chocolate fudge work well
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips — semi-sweet, dark, white, or your favorite
Some cake mix cookie recipes call for oil, but using melted butter gives these cookies a chewier, more classic cookie texture rather than a cake-like crumb. If you only have oil, substitute 1/3 cup oil for the butter.
Begin by beating the melted butter, eggs, and cake mix together in a large bowl, then fold in the chocolate chips. The dough will be sticky — use a cookie scoop if you have one. If not, lightly grease a tablespoon and your palms to shape the dough into balls. Place the dough balls about 2 inches apart on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake.
If your cake mix comes in an 18 oz box, increase the melted butter to 1/2 cup for the best texture. I’ve used different brands—Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, and store brands—and they all yield excellent cookies.
These cookies are a fantastic shortcut when you want a deeply chocolate treat without making dough from scratch. They deliver everything you want in a chocolate cookie:
- Fudgy centers
- Soft texture
- Chewy edges
- A touch of gooeyness
- Simply prepared
- Loaded with chocolate
If you enjoy cake mix recipes, this one is an easy winner and a quick way to satisfy a chocolate craving.
