Today I’m sharing a simple recipe for goat cheese crostini topped with fresh berries. This light, flavorful appetizer is easy to prepare, can be adapted to whatever fruit is in season, and makes a perfect bite for entertaining friends.

I made these crostini for a girls’ night and decided to pair them with a new-to-me California red wine, Dreaming Tree Crush by The Dreaming Tree Wines. It’s an affordable, easy-drinking red that complemented the appetizers nicely and suited the relaxed evening.

Over the past few years my friends and I have shifted from dining out to hosting evenings at each other’s homes. It’s more economical, far more relaxed, and removes the hassle of waiting for a table or shouting over the noise. At home we can linger as long as we like—talking, laughing, and catching up—without worrying about someone needing our table back.

Hosting at home is also a great excuse to make appetizers. These goat cheese crostini are bite-sized, not too heavy, and very quick to prepare. Anything with goat cheese gets an immediate thumbs up from me—the creamy tang pairs exceptionally well with sweet, fresh fruit and a touch of honey.

To make them, slice a French baguette into 1/2-inch pieces and lightly broil or bake the slices until crisp. Whip goat cheese with a bit of cream cheese for a smoother, lighter spread. Top each crostini with the cheese mixture, add fresh berries—strawberries, blackberries, or sliced pears work well depending on the season—and finish with a drizzle of honey to brighten the flavors.

I picked up both a red and a white for the evening: The Dreaming Tree Crush and The Dreaming Tree Chardonnay. Both were widely available at my grocery store; these wines are easy to find at many retailers. The Crush is medium-bodied with a hint of raspberry that paired well with the crostini, while the Chardonnay was crisp and not overly sweet—another good option for guests who prefer white.

One thing I appreciated about The Dreaming Tree brand is its social conscience: the company emphasizes sustainable winemaking practices and supports environmental programs. It’s nice to enjoy a wine that’s both enjoyable and mindful of its environmental impact.

The girls’ night was a success: lively conversation, lots of laughs, delicious crostini, and a bottle of Crush to sip between bites. These crostini are a simple, crowd-pleasing appetizer you can make in minutes, and they pair wonderfully with versatile, affordable wines.
