Silky smooth Chocolate Peanut Butter Sundae Sauce. Five ingredients, made in the microwave and ready in under five minutes — this decadent sauce is a chocolate-peanut-butter lover’s dream!
I have a long-standing love affair with chocolate and peanut butter, so drizzling cold, creamy vanilla ice cream with warm milk chocolate and peanut butter feels like the perfect treat. This Chocolate Peanut Butter Sundae Sauce delivers exactly that: rich, fudgy chocolate infused with creamy peanut butter for a sundae topping that tastes like a peanut butter cup in sauce form.
I’ve made plenty of chocolate-peanut-butter desserts — from flourless peanut butter cookies to peanut butter sandwich cookies with chocolate frosting and chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting — but when the weather’s hot I want something quick, simple, and no-bake. This sauce fits the bill: five ingredients, one bowl, no oven, and ready in minutes.
Inspired by Nigella Lawson’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Sauce, I adapted the method to make it in the microwave instead of on the stovetop. On a summer day, why heat up the kitchen? I also swap the whipping cream for a small amount of butter and milk so the recipe uses ingredients you more commonly have on hand.
This sauce is smooth, thick and luscious. It pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream, brownies, or warm fruit. You can spoon it over sundaes, use it as a dip, or let it cool and store it for later.
Why this Chocolate Peanut Butter Sundae Sauce works well:
- Rich chocolate and peanut butter flavor
- Thick, fudgy texture
- Only five ingredients
- Made in one bowl
- Prepared in the microwave — no stove required
- Ready in about five minutes
To prepare the sauce, place all ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second bursts. After each burst, remove the bowl and stir or whisk. In my microwave it took three 30-second intervals for the chocolate to be nearly melted; a final whisk creates a glossy, silky sauce.
A quick tip: don’t try to save time by microwaving for a single long interval. Heating the mixture in longer stretches can cause the chocolate to “bake” instead of gently melting, which prevents a smooth consistency. Short, monitored bursts with stirring between them are the key to success.
This Chocolate Peanut Butter Sundae Sauce is ridiculously easy and perfect for warm-weather indulgence. Serve it hot over ice cream or brownies, or cool it and store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator — either way, peanut butter lovers will be pleased.
