Chocolate, almonds & coconut combine in a wholesome breakfast shake that’s dairy-free, gluten-free, free of refined sugars, and vegan.
January is the season for fresh starts, new goals—and often, miserable weather. While many people announce ambitious health resolutions, I tend to focus on pastry-driven aims: make more cheesecake, perfect light and fluffy cinnamon rolls, and learn how to deep-fry yeast doughnuts. That said, it’s nice to join the healthy-eating bandwagon sometimes, especially when the option tastes this good.
If you love the classic trio of chocolate, almonds and coconut, this shake is for you. It blends those flavors into a chocolatey, nutty, refreshing and filling drink with a frothy texture. It’s naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, free of refined sugars, and vegan—so it fits most dietary resolutions without feeling like a sacrifice.
The recipe uses just five simple ingredients and takes only minutes in the blender: almond milk, almond butter, cocoa powder, a ripe banana and coconut. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and sweetened shredded coconut—the sweetness level was perfect for me. If you prefer a sweeter shake, choose sweetened almond milk or add a touch of honey, agave or a sweetener of your choice. For extra protein, swap the cocoa for chocolate protein powder or add a bit more almond butter.
This shake makes a great quick breakfast or satisfying snack. It’s tasty, nourishing and uncomplicated—a smart way to keep a healthy resolution or to balance out a day that might include a cookie or two.
