Banana Waffles – Perfect for Brunch

If you enjoy banana bread, banana waffles are a must-try. They capture all the warm, comforting flavors of banana bread in a light, airy waffle. Add-ins like walnuts or chocolate chips are optional, but I prefer them simple with a generous drizzle of maple syrup.A plate of banana bread waffles ready to serve.

This recipe is quick and straightforward. Whisk the dry ingredients in one bowl. In another bowl combine melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla and milk, then stir in mashed bananas. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture gently — a few lumps are fine. Cook in a preheated waffle iron and enjoy.

Quick tips for the best banana waffles:

  1. Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor.
  2. Do not overmix the batter; a few lumps are okay.
  3. Ensure the waffle iron is hot before adding batter; allow it to rewarm between batches if needed.
  4. Cook 1–2 minutes longer for crispier edges.
  5. Keep finished waffles warm in a 200°F oven until serving.

One great advantage of these waffles is time: the batter comes together in about 10 minutes, and you can cook the whole batch in under 15 minutes—much faster than baking a loaf of banana bread.

These waffles are fluffy and moist with a hint of cinnamon and brown sugar and pronounced banana-bread flavor. Serve them for breakfast with maple syrup and whipped cream, or turn them into a dessert topped with chocolate chips, caramel sauce and ice cream.

These banana waffles are genuinely delicious and easy to make—perfect for a weekend brunch or a quick, comforting breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk (buttermilk, 1% or 2% work)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter, cooled
  • 3/4 cup mashed bananas (about 2 medium bananas)

Instructions

  • Heat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
  • In a medium bowl whisk the milk, brown sugar, vanilla, eggs and melted butter. Stir in the mashed bananas.
  • Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture; avoid overmixing.
  • Lightly grease the waffle maker and pour about 1/4 cup of batter into each cavity (or follow your waffle iron’s guidelines).
  • Cook 4–6 minutes or until the edges are golden and the waffle is cooked through.

Notes

Serve waffles the same day for best texture. Cooled waffles freeze well and can be reheated in a toaster oven or regular toaster.
