Ingredients You'll Need

To make this simple chocolate cream pie, gather the following ingredients.

For the chocolate wafer crust, you will need:

  • Chocolate Wafers – about 28 wafers. I like Nabisco's brand.
  • Granulated Sugar – just 1 tablespoon.
  • Unsalted Butter – 5 tablespoons. Melt it, then stir it into the crumbs.

Oreos can be used in place of the chocolate wafers, in the same amount.

For the chocolate cream pie, you will need:

  • Cream Cheese – 8 ounces (1 package), softened and at room temperature
  • White Granulated Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • Milk – any kind works. I used 1%.
  • Cool Whip – 8 ounces (1 container) for the filling. If you also want it for garnish, buy 2.
  • Extra garnishes like chocolate curls, chocolate wafer crumbs, or chocolate syrup

How to Make No Bake Chocolate Cream Pie

A food processor is ideal for the crust, but you can manage without one. Put the chocolate wafers in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin or meat tenderizer. Anything heavy and hammer-like works well!

Once you stir in the melted butter and sugar, the crust should feel like wet sand. It should hold its shape easily in the pie plate. Press it in with clean hands, a spatula, or the bottom of a measuring cup. I like the measuring cup because it smooths and levels the crust nicely.

Freeze the crust for at least 30 minutes. You can also bake it at 325ºF for 8-10 minutes instead, but then let it cool before adding the filling.

The most important tip for the filling is to make sure your cream cheese is softened and at room temperature. Even a little coldness or firmness will leave tiny, annoying lumps.

For tips on fixing lumps, see my S’mores Cheesecake recipe page.
